ART-IN-RES Symposium, Kick-off Meeting of the European Project Bridging the AIR (BtAIR)

The ART-IN-RES Symposium, organised annually by Nová síť (New Network), serves as a platform for sharing, reflection, and systemic debate on residency practice in Europe. It focuses on long-term structural imbalances in the field of cultural residencies and on the role of host organisations, whose work, expertise, and infrastructure often remain overlooked, despite being essential to sustainable cultural mobility and the European cultural ecosystem.

These challenges are addressed by the new international project Bridging the A-I-R (BtAIR), implemented in six European countries and supported by the Creative Europe Programme from 2026. BtAIR responds to imbalances in the European artist residency system, specifically the long-term underfunding and invisibility of host organisations. The project strengthens their professional capacity, infrastructure, and role within the cultural ecosystem, as sustainable cultural mobility cannot exist without strong residency centres.
