The George production is based on the book Lélia: the life of George Sand, written in 1966 by André Maurois. The book contains diary entries that George wrote and we were interested in how she describes herself. It was not only about the male-female polarity, but about self-identification with a whole range of animals, objects or ghosts. So the story of George Sand is a story of an ever-changing identity.
At the same time, the first name George caught our attention. In addition to Aurora Dupin Delaborde, two other writers of the time also used this first name as a pseudonym. Mary Ann Evans became George Eliot and Mary Chavelita Dune became George Egerton. This remarkable connection, in our opinion, makes the name George a metaphor with which we continue to work. George as a new identity, a place of refuge, a creator bringing the fruits of his labor, a free man. What does it mean to become George? Can women with the name George fully show who they are? Or is the name George the first seed in the field of a new approach to identity?
